Bi-Vocational Elders/Pastors
At Healing Church, we champion the model of Bi-Vocational Elders/Pastors who serve our community while also engaging in secular employment. This approach ensures that our church leadership is intimately connected with the everyday lives of our congregation and that our church resources are primarily allocated to ministries directly contributing to our mission.
"Be shepherds of God’s flock that is under your care, watching over them—not because you must, but because you are willing, as God wants you to be; not pursuing dishonest gain, but eager to serve." (1 Peter 5:2) This scripture is pivotal in guiding our elders and pastors to serve not for financial benefits but out of a genuine call to shepherd the church as the Lord intended.
Our leadership model reflects the New Testament pattern where many of the early church leaders maintained trades or professions outside their pastoral duties. This practice promotes a leadership that is sustainable and relatable, minimizing the financial burden on our gatherings and maximizing our collective resources towards mission-focused activities such as Bible institutes and counseling ministries.
We believe that bi-vocational leadership enhances our church’s ability to serve authentically and effectively. It grounds our pastors and elders in the realities of daily work and life, ensuring they remain approachable and empathetic to the needs of our community. Furthermore, this model aligns with our commitment to the Simple Church approach, where the focus is on spiritual growth and community impact rather than institutional maintenance.
Our elders and pastors are dedicated to leading by example, demonstrating that one can faithfully serve God in both spiritual and secular arenas. This dual commitment exemplifies the scriptural admonition to work with our hands, as stated by Paul: "You yourselves know that these hands of mine have supplied my own needs and the needs of my companions." (Acts 20:34)
At Healing Church, we invite our members to support and participate in this sustainable model of church leadership, fostering a community where service is rendered willingly and joyfully, for the glory of God.
